Nagoy University from Japan has reported that it has discovered probable alternative treatment of Type-1 Insulin dependent diabetes based on leptin hormone.
Leptin hormone administered in combination with Protein-tyrosine phosphate 1B (PTP1B) enzyme significantly reduces in circulation blood glucose without administering doses of insulin. Protein-tyrosine phosphate 1B (PTP1B) enzyme is found throughout body and plays role in regulating insulin signaling and obesity.
Study has pointed that if combined dose of leptin and Protein-tyrosine phosphate 1B (PTP1B) enzyme are given together in insulin dependent diabetic patient will lead to more uptake of glucose and potentially lowering its levels in blood.
What are possible benefits of leptin over insulin in diabetes?
Leptin is said to act on hypothalamus part of brain.
Further it also promotes uptake of glucose in peripheral organs like muscles and adipose tissue via automatic nervous system.
If this system becomes effective for human use it will save millions of patients from daily doses of insulin injection which are painful.
It will also save the dreadful aspect like hyperglycemia which is mostly associated with insulin dependent treatment.
Moreover it is also put forth that unlike insulin, leptin administration lowers the risk of hypoglycemia. It also suppresses fat synthesis.
